The Center for Life and Career Development (CLCD) offers dynamic psychosocial support programs and responsive services that cater to the diverse academic, personal-social, and career needs of the pupils/students. The Center provides meaningful learning opportunities that enable the pupils/ students to maximize their knowledge, skills, interests, and potentials which are essential in achieving their academic pursuit and career aspirations. Various programs that promote home and school collaboration are also designed to strengthen the partnership between administrators, faculty, and parents/official guardians and families.

 

CLCD Programs and Services include:

 

A. Psycho-Education Program

To help the pupils/students develop essential life skills, psycho-education series about Mental Health and Well-being, Family and Life Education, and Career Education and Informed Decision-Making are provided through webinars, video blogs (vlogs) and infographics posted on the CLCD official social media account and Microsoft Teams.

 

B. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services

Helplines for Psychosocial Support are available for pupils/students experiencing emotional distress or in need of personal-social, academic or career guidance. Pupils/Students referred by their teachers and parents/ official guardians are immediately attended to by their school counselor through online or onsite counseling.

  1. POLICY STATEMENT

We, at St. Mary’s College Inc. (Quezon City), commit to uphold positive mental health and well-balanced socioemotional wellbeing of our learners and personnel by providing a whole school approach through responsive psychosocial support, awareness campaigns, and prevention programs.

 

  1. POLICY SCOPE

This policy is a guide to all personnel and learners in promoting mental health and wellbeing in accordance with the outlined key strategies of St. Mary’s College Inc. (Quezon City).

 

  1. POLICY OBJECTIVES 

1. To promote positive mental health and well-balanced socioemotional wellbeing of all personnel, learners and their families

2. To increase awareness on common mental health issues and prevent stigma and discrimination

3. To provide appropriate support to learners and personnel who are at risk/ with mental health issues and facilitate access to mental health services

4. To develop resiliency among learners and personnel through resiliency-building techniques and strategies

 

  1. KEY STRATEGIES

A. Mental Health Education, Training and Awareness Campaigns

1. Mental health seminars/ webinars on most common mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse for personnel, learners and their families

2. Personnel capacity building on identification, recognition of psychosocial hazards and management of mental health problems

3. Bullying prevention advocacies

4. Awareness campaigns on the prevention of stigma and discrimination of individuals with mental health condition

5. Implementation of suicide prevention strategies

 

V.  Promotion and Enhancement of Learners and Personnel Wellbeing

1. Promotion of healthy lifestyle and work/school-life balance

2. Identification and management of work/school-related stress and stressors

3. Integration of activities that enhance the socioemotional skills and competencies of learners and personnel

4. Enhancement of coping skills through resiliency training

5. Implementation of various Family and Life Education Program for learners and personnel

 

VI. Reporting and Referral System

1. Teachers, learners and parents/guardians are encouraged to report individuals at risk/ with mental health concerns using the CLCD Online Referral System.

2. Referred individuals are called by the CLCD personnel for initial conference to assist them in identifying their mental health issues and concerns.

2.1 Well-functioning individuals with manageable mental health issues/ concerns are provided with immediate psychosocial support through conference and follow-up.

2.2 Individuals at risk/ with mental health issues/ problems who need further expert assessment and intervention are referred to partner mental health institution/ wellness clinics.

3. Referral sources are provided with Referral Feedback Form to provide an update as regards the actions taken by CLCD on the referred cases.

 

  1. MONITORING AND EVALUATION

The Center for Life and Career Development in partnership with the different sectors of the institution, is the primary responsible in implementing the different key strategies outlined in this policy.

Review and evaluation of the Mental Health Policies and Programs shall be done annually or as necessary to ensure its effective implementation.
